Notes on the numbering systems adopted for NGC 188 (04.08.07)


       1 -     16 : Letters A - O (pe std)
     101 -    906 : No Sarajedini (Col. 7), sequential numbering.
    1001 -   1179 : No Sandage I-xxx (Col. 1)
    1301 -   1346 : No Caputo Enn.I, written as 13nn (Col. 4)
    2001 -   2228 : No Sandage II-xxx
    2307 -   2387 : No Caputo Enn.II, written as 23nn
    3001 -   3163 : No Sandage III-xxx
    4001 -   4748 : No van Hippel + 4000 (Col. 6)
    5001 -   5226 : No Upgren + 5000 (Col. 2)
    5227 -   5336 : No Dinescu (Col. 5), sequential numbering.
    6021 -   8171 : No Frolov + 6000 (Col. 3)
    9000 -   9569 : No Folsom + 9000 (Col. 14)
   10001 -  19476 : No Platais + 10000 (Col. 9)

Priority is given to Sandage numbering.

Stars from the various sources not common with the basic one
or the existing system already present in the cross-reference
table are added, either with a seqeuntial numbering of the stars,
or by adding a constant factor.

For example, stars from Upgren et al. not common with the basic 
numbering system of Sandage, are recorded under 5000 + no Upgren.

In a similar way, a constant = 6000 has been added to the number 
of Frolov, so that number 6001 to 6999 represent stars 1 to 999, 
while 7000 to 8171 represent stars 1000 to 2171.
